The template library
Beyond the templates that come with the app, there is a library of ready-made ones you can search and add in one tap. This is how to find one, add it, make it your own, and take it off your list again.
Find a template
On the Home tab, tap Start New Walk.
Scroll past your own templates and tap Find another template.
Type in the search box — a short word works best: hydrant rather than fire hydrant inspection form. Or tap an industry chip.
The library opens on the industry you chose when you signed up. Tap All to see everything.
Each row tells you whether the template is already on your device.
Add it to your phone or iPad
Tap Add next to the template. You need to be signed in and have a signal the first time.
You'll see a note that it's on your phone and works with no signal.
Go back. It's now on the Start Walk screen under ADDED FROM THE LIBRARY, ready to start.
If you see “This template needs a newer version of the app,” update ReportWalk and try again. See App updates.
An added template stays up to date
Adding a template doesn't make a private copy. It puts a link to the library template on your list, and the template itself is stored on your device so it works offline.
That means when we correct or improve a library template, the change reaches you the next time you're online. You don't have to do anything.
Walks you have already started are never changed under you. Each walk keeps the template exactly as it was when you started it.
Want to change it? Duplicate it
Because a library template is shared, it's locked — you'll see a lock next to it in Settings → My Templates. To make changes, make your own copy:
In My Templates, tap the copy icon next to it, or open it and tap Duplicate to My Templates.
Your copy appears under MINE, with “(copy)” after the name. It's yours to rename and edit.
Your copy won't receive library updates — it's yours now. Step-by-step editing is in Editing your templates.
Remove or delete
- A template you added from the library can be removed. Tap its trash icon in the library or in My Templates, then Remove. It stays in the library, and you can add it again any time. Walks that used it keep their own copy.
- A template you built or duplicated can be deleted. Tap the trash icon, then Delete. Walks already using it keep their copy.
- The templates that come with the app are always there. You can't remove them, but you can duplicate them.
Good to know
- Searching works offline once the library has been downloaded. If it says the library is empty on this phone, connect once and it fills itself.
- On a second device — say, an iPad — open the library once and the templates you added show up there too.
