Editing your templates

Every template in ReportWalk can be changed to fit how you work — the sections, the order, the wording of each field, what kind of answer it takes. This is how, step by step, on iPhone or iPad.

1

Where templates live

In the app, open Settings and tap My Templates. You'll see every template you can use: the ones built into the app, the ones you've installed from the library, and your own.

A lock means the template is shared — built in, or installed from the library.

2

Library templates: make your own copy first

Templates from the library are shared by everyone who installed them, so they're locked. That's what lets an improvement to the library template reach everyone. To change one, copy it:

  1. Tap the copy icon next to the template (or open it and tap Duplicate to My Templates).

  2. Your copy appears in the list without a lock. It's yours: rename it, change anything, delete what you don't need.

Removing a library template you installed takes it off your list; it doesn't delete it for anyone else. Your own templates can be deleted.

3

Change sections

Open your template. Sections run in the order the inspector walks the job.

  1. Rename or edit — tap a section to open it. Change its name, and its objective: the one line the inspector sees before they start talking (for example, “Establish the condition of the roof covering, drainage and penetrations.”). Tap Write it for me — from the fields to have the app suggest one.

  2. Reorder — press and hold a section, then drag it.

  3. Add or remove — Add Section at the bottom; the trash icon on a section removes it.

  4. Tap Save Template when you're done.

4

Change a field

  1. Open the section, then tap the field you want to change. The Edit Field panel opens.

  2. Change the name — the question the inspector answers.

  3. Change the type if you need to — tap a different chip (see the list below).

  4. For a dropdown or multiple choice, edit the options, one per line. For a measurement, set the unit. For a condition rating, set the scale. For a photo, set how many.

  5. Turn Required for “You're covered” on if the inspector shouldn't finish without it.

  6. Tap Save Field, then Save Template.

To reorder fields, press and hold one and drag it. To add one, tap Add Field. To delete one, tap its trash icon.

Many library templates have extras you won't see in the editor: questions that only appear after a certain answer, scoring, and answers that raise a finding. Editing a field's wording or options keeps those. If you change a field's type, its scoring and finding rules no longer apply to it.

A List / inventory field holds its own small set of fields. Use it wherever the job repeats: one entry per room, per machine, per tree, per defect.

6

Build a template from scratch

  1. In My Templates, tap New Template.

  2. Give it a name, an industry and a short description.

  3. Add sections in the order you walk the job, then the fields in each.

  4. Tap Save Template. It's ready for your next walk.

A template can have up to 20 sections and up to 50 fields in each.

Good to know

  • Walks keep their version. A walk you've already started keeps the template as it was when you started. New walks use your edited template.
  • Edit in the app. Templates are edited on iPhone or iPad. The free web forms at templates.reportwalk.com are for filling in, not editing.
  • Would rather not build it yourself? Send us the form or report you use today — a PDF, a Word file, a past report — and we'll build it in ReportWalk for you, free, usually in two or three working days. Send us your form.
