Wind Mitigation Inspection Checklist — Done on the Roof | ReportWalk
A wind mitigation inspection checklist you fill in by voice: on the roof, in the attic and around the house, say what you see and each section fills itself in.
What you’ll see
- The Wind Mitigation Inspection checklist is in the ReportWalk template library. Install it once and it stays on your phone. Every wind feature is its own section: roof covering, roof deck attachment, roof-to-wall connection, roof geometry, secondary water resistance and opening protection.
- On the roof, say "asphalt shingles, permitted in 2019, built to the Florida Building Code" and the covering type, permit and compliance fields fill in. Then the roof shape and hip roof percentage. In the attic, the deck material and nail pattern, then the roof-to-wall connection: double wraps. Take the photo of the strap and it stays with that section, stamped with GPS, time and weather. Back outside, opening protection: impact glass and rated shutters.
- Sign on the phone and the wind mitigation report is ready, with your logo, every answer and the photos, as a PDF or a live link. It is a checklist for your inspection, not the state form.

A wind mitigation inspection really asks one thing: when the hurricane shows up, does the roof stay on? You answer it in six parts. Two of them from a Florida attic, in August.
So here’s the wind mitigation inspection checklist in ReportWalk. Install it once from the template library, and it stays on your phone.
Roof covering. Deck attachment. Roof-to-wall. Roof shape. Secondary water resistance. Opening protection. Each one is its own section.
Start on the roof. Open Roof Covering, tap once, and talk.
“Asphalt shingles. Permitted in twenty nineteen. Built to the Florida Building Code.”
Covering type, permit, code compliance: filled.
Then Roof Geometry. “Hip roof. Ninety-two percent.”
Now the attic. Bring water. Open the roof deck attachment section.
“Plywood deck. 8d nails, six inches at the edges, six in the field.”
Deck material: plywood. Attachment: level C. You didn’t type a word, which is lucky, because your hands are now mostly sweat.
Roof-to-Wall Connection. “Double wraps, on every truss I can see.”
Take the photo of the strap while you’re in there. It stays with that section, with the GPS, time and weather on it.
Back outside, where the air is free. Opening Protection. “Impact glass on every window. Rated shutters on the garage door.”
All openings protected. Protection type: combination. Secondary water resistance, same way.
Sign it on the phone, and the wind mitigation report is ready. Your logo, every answer, the photos. PDF or live link.
The hurricane, as usual, did not ask for a copy.
